Published by Kantipur Media Group, the two newsrooms have spent decades at the center of the country’s most consequential conversations, in two languages, across two distinct but complementary audiences.

As the demands on Nepali journalism deepen, the opportunity to do more ambitious, accountability-driven work has never been greater. We are looking for a rigorous, deeply skilled editor to build and lead that style of journalism that fills an existing gap in the industry: the features that reveal, the investigations that hold power to account, and the enterprise reporting that helps readers understand the forces shaping their lives.

The Managing Editor for Features, Investigations and Enterprise is a senior editorial leadership role created to elevate the most consequential journalism across both publications: long-form features, accountability and investigative reporting, and enterprise stories that set the news agenda. This editor will lead a cross-publication team responsible for the journalism that defines Kantipur Media Group’s editorial identity and public impact.

The role works in close collaboration with the editors of Kantipur Daily and The Kathmandu Post to commission, develop, and publish work of lasting significance. It will work across languages, audiences, and platforms and is expected to approach both publications as complementary voices rather than separate silos. We’re looking for someone with the judgment, flexibility, and authority to operate at a higher-level editorial perspective while remaining close to the stories the team will produce.

What you’ll do

• Lead and manage a cross-publication team of features writers, investigative reporters, and enterprise journalists across both Kantipur Daily and The Kathmandu Post
• Own the editorial pipeline for long-form, investigative, and enterprise journalism, from story conception and development through editing, fact-checking, and publication
• Work closely with beat reporters and section editors to identify stories with investigative or enterprise potential, and guide them beyond the daily news cycle
• Develop and maintain a forward-looking story budget that reflects Nepal’s political, economic, and social priorities, with particular emphasis on accountability journalism
• Collaborate with editorial leadership on editorial strategy and ensure features and investigations are integrated into each publication’s digital and print platforms with appropriate visual and multimedia support
• Uphold rigorous editorial standards — accuracy, fairness, source protection, and legal compliance — across all long-form and investigative work
• Build a culture of ambitious, reader-first storytelling within the team; mentor junior reporters in enterprise reporting skills, pitch development, and narrative craft
• Manage publication timelines for complex projects, including coordinating simultaneous publication across Nepali and English platforms when relevant

Who you are

• A senior journalist with at least 12 years of experience, including meaningful time in an editorial leadership capacity at a major news organization
• A skilled editor with a strong track record developing and editing investigative, enterprise, or long-form journalism — ideally work that has driven public accountability
• Deeply familiar with Nepal’s political, institutional, and social landscape
• Fluency in Nepali and English is required and the confidence to edit in both languages is strongly preferred
• Experienced managing editorial teams by setting direction, resolving conflicts, developing talent, and maintaining morale
• Comfortable operating in a fast-moving newsroom and making quick editorial judgment calls under deadline pressure
• Strong command of journalistic ethics and understanding of defamation law and source protection principles
• Genuinely motivated by journalism that matters to people’s lives and the health of democratic institutions
• Some familiarity with data journalism, RTI-driven reporting, or document-based investigations preferred
• Willingness to research, explore and build relationships with international journalism partners (ICIJ, OCCRP, regional networks) for co-reporting and co-publication opportunities
